3 Reasons Why Therapeutic Reminiscence Works

For years, LifeBio has worked to develop the right therapeutic reminiscence methods to use in health care settings. These approaches to capture life stories have been used in senior living, long-term care, assisted living, and memory care.  LifeBio has also been deployed successfully in hospices, hospitals, and in senior centers, adult day centers, home care settings, and libraries.  There are a number of reasons why I believe reminiscence is so therapeutic.

1)  Therapeutic reminiscence is validating.  Every individual has a powerful story to tell.  It's just a matter of tapping into what makes the story unique. Every story has joys and challenges and there are wise words, values, and lessons learned to pass along.

2) Therapeutic reminiscence touches all dimensions of wellness.  Studies of reminiscence and life review have shown the approach has the power to lower physical pain, reduce depression, and increase feelings of wellbeing.  This is brain fitness at its finest too.

3) Therapeutic reminiscence build relationships and increases engagement. Listening shows that people care about each other deeply. In health care settings, the engagement really leads to higher satisfaction and better quality outcomes too.
